HUGE update: every match is now a YouTube video

Every match on Hardcore Games now gets turned into a YouTube video.

Once a game ends, the whole match gets played back, picked through, and made into a narrated video posted to our YouTube, @hardcorepvpcom.

You are the cast, so:

  • Every player gets their own voice in the videos. It is a made up voice, never your real one.
  • What you type in chat can end up in the video, read out loud by your character. So have fun with it and roleplay your kit.

The fights, the deaths, the final kill, and most importantly... who won and got the cake. It is all in there. Short games become YouTube Shorts and longer games become full videos. Each one also gets linked in the movies channel on our Discord.

New commands:

You control how you show up with /movie in game.

  • /movie voice list see every voice (Hero, Villain, Old man, Kid and more)
  • /movie voice <name or number> pick yours
  • /highlight <what happened and why> did something cool? Type this right after and the moment gets special consideration for the video. Up to 3 a game.
  • /movie block USE THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE INCLUDED. It keeps your name and skin out of the videos. You show up as an anonymous tribute instead.

So now there is an even bigger reason to bring friends and compete. Win a game and there is a movie about it. Die in a dumb way and there is a movie about that too. All of it cemented forever for people to watch and enjoy.

Find a friend who plays Java or Bedrock, hop onto hardcorepvp.com, pick a kit, and go get famous.

This is brand new, so we will be tuning the animations, recordings and styling over time. As far as the server and the PvP go, it is just the same and just as fun.

If no game gets played for 8 hours, a random story gets made instead, but the real matches are way more thrilling.

Cheers!

P.S. Subscribe so you see your match when it drops: youtube.com/@hardcorepvpcom

Congrats, Optimieren!

A special congratulations to Optimieren who was the winner of our very first game. They killed HabKeinWlan as a Kangaroo in an epic battle! We hope you enjoyed your cake celebration.

We have also updated to 26.3, so you can hop on with the newest version of Minecraft.

P.S. No one showed up to our Tournament last week. We will be hosting another one when we see a regular player base begin to form.

Keep playing Gamers.

Sunday Tournament, September 13

TOURNAMENT THIS SUNDAY, 9/13, 7:30 PM Pacific. Three games in a row. Win a game, win $20. That is $60 up for grabs across the three games.

Log on before 7:30, pick your kit, and be in the lobby when the countdown starts. Each game is a fresh map and a fresh $20 for whoever is the last one standing. Win one, come back for the next.

I'll pay winners through Venmo, or Discord Nitro if you'd rather have that, and I will contact each winner in the next lobby after the game they won. So two things:

  • You must have Venmo to receive the prize, or take it as Discord Nitro.
  • You must join the lobby after your win and /msg taborgreat.

I'll hold the lobby until start time, so join early, pick your kit, and check out the terrain for the first game.

Other changes:

  • The website and server address are now hardcorepvp.com. It is Hardcore Minecraft plus PvP plus kits, one winner, then a reset. The old hardcorekits.com still works and gets you to the same place, but the new one is the main address from here on.
  • The build limit is still 140, but mountains taller than that are now usable. You can build a few blocks over the natural ground up there, but not tower off it. This prevents huge towers built from y=60 terrain but still allows you to place blocks and break the top of mountains.
  • More mushrooms in swamps, and some under forest trees now too.
  • New lobby command: /spawn puts you back at the center if you get stuck.
  • New kit: Horseman. A horse egg and two hay bales. The egg hatches a saddled, armored horse that only you can ride, and you can use it from the moment the game starts. Every player you kill heals the horse to full. One horse per game, so keep it alive. An Endermage portal will pull you through horse and all.

See you Sunday. Spread the word.

Alpha v0.1

Back in 2012 to 2015 I fell in love with a very unique Minecraft server. Rushing home from middle school, I would hop into a new game and try to get another win.

This was pre Fortnite. A popular book series called The Hunger Games came out around 2010 and most kids were reading it. The idea of being thrown into an arena where everyone had to fight to the death and the last one standing was the victor was huge.

Most Minecraft Hunger Games servers were generic prebuilt maps with chests to find, or highly overdone kits, and so on. But this server generated a completely natural world and let players choose from a handful of well balanced kits to dig, mine, build, set traps, and use everything Minecraft has to offer along with the kits to create a gaming rush unlike anything I have found since.

The servers shut down, and while McPVP has recently been revived (same name, different brand) and the Hardcore Games mode has been revived several times, none of them matched what I remembered.

I have carefully crafted an experience matching what most of us who played in 2013 would genuinely expect. Straightforward and fun, along with a collection of kits.

Not many people play yet. In fact, as I write this, no one does. But as more people play and test things and report bugs, we will get more servers opened up and start developing new kits if the community wants. I am very open to the community for suggestions, support, and help.

So as a baseline, announcing a solid and working rebuild of the experience I remember: Alpha v0.1 of Hardcore Games is released. These are the kits in the first version.

  • Anchor: no knockback given or taken, no boots
  • Barbarian: a sword that upgrades itself as you get kills
  • Beastmaster: tamed wolves with speed or regeneration
  • Berserker: kills give Strength, but no jumping while it lasts
  • Cannibal: hitting players feeds you and starves them
  • Cookiemonster: grass drops cookies that heal and speed you up
  • Cultivator: everything you plant grows instantly
  • Demoman: hidden pressure plate mines
  • Digger: dragon eggs that open a shaft under whoever stands there
  • Endermage: a portal that drags anyone above or below it to you
  • Fighter: a wooden sword and two steak, nothing else
  • Fireman: immune to fire, lava and lightning
  • Fisherman: a rod that reels players to your feet
  • Flash: teleport where you look, at a cost
  • Forger: smelt ore in your inventory with coal
  • Gambler: a button with random effects, good or very bad
  • Gladiator: force a 1v1 in a sky arena
  • Grandpa: a stick with Knockback II
  • Grappler: a hook that launches you toward whatever it catches
  • Hades: turn mobs into minions that fight for you
  • Hermit: start alone, far from everyone
  • Hulk: pick players up and throw them
  • Jackhammer: a hammer that brings down whole columns
  • Jellyfish: water wherever you click, no bucket
  • Kangaroo: a rocket that launches you through the air
  • Kaya: grass that gives way under enemies
  • Launcher: sponges that fling whoever steps on them
  • Monk: knock the item out of an enemy's hand
  • Ninja: teleport to the last player you hit
  • Poseidon: hit harder in water, never drown
  • Pyro: fire charges that set the area ablaze
  • Reaper: a hoe that withers players
  • Scorch: leave a trail of fire behind you
  • Snail: hits can slow enemies down
  • Soulstealer: one chance to come back from death
  • Spiderman: snowballs that turn into cobwebs
  • Spy: a compass that tells you far too much
  • Stomper: land on people and they take your fall damage
  • Switcher: snowballs that swap places with whoever they hit
  • Tank: players you kill explode, explosions never hurt you
  • Thor: call lightning down with your axe
  • Timelord: freeze everyone around you for ten seconds
  • Turtle: crouch to take almost no damage
  • Vampire: kills heal you, potions work backwards
  • Viper: hits can poison
  • Werewolf: strong at night, weak by day, wolves leave you alone
  • Wisp: decoys of yourself that scatter

Thank you all for being here, and I invite you to share this around and get your friends. We need an organic, real community and the only way that can happen is by word of mouth. I genuinely think the experience becomes much greater with 40 or more players per game, and 120 is peak.

Welcome to Hardcore Games with kits.
